Coming Back to Life

Check out these amazing  images of various hard-hit areas in last year's Japanese tsunami, contrasting how things looked then and how they look now:
The tsunami waves that struck Japan’s east coast on March 11, 2011, killed nearly 19,000 and displaced more than 340,000. Authorities say a full recovery will take at least a decade. These 13 images show the devastation in the days after the disaster and the same spots nearly a year later.
It is encouraging to see images of hope arising from so much loss and devastation. What's at work here is nothing less than the triumph of the human spirit.

That progress has occurred so quickly is also a testament to modern technology and construction methods -- not to mention Japanese courage and ingenuity.

Good for Japan; good for all of us.
